The Sacredness of Queer Hearts

from $15.00

Certain faiths believe Queerness is a sin, a crime of the highest order, with some followers of these faiths even declaring that Queerness should be punishable by death. Regardless of what they believe, experiencing love as a Queer woman has been one of the most Sacred experiences of my life. In fact, I cannot imagine anything more Sacred than love felt by a heart that has been told it is wrong and has the courage to love themselves and the people around them anyways.

This piece reimagines the Sacred Heart and other Catholic motifs, most of which are associated with punishment and sin, as symbols of empowerment, reclamation, and self-love. The serpents, traditionally a representation of temptation and evil, remind us that to love ourselves and others is to embrace change. The apple seeds of the Forbidden Fruit encourage us to seek knowledge and to question authority for the purpose of improving the world around us. The roots symbolize our ability to nourish the Tree of Life that exists within each of us and connects us to the natural world. The North Star inspires us to follow our own paths, guided by what brings us the most light. Lastly, the dove reminds us to nurture peace within our own hearts as well as the hearts of those within our communities.

Available in 5×7” and 8×10”.

Giclée fine art prints are printed on cardstock using high-quality pigment ink. Packaged with care in a cellophane sleeve with a backing board.
