Lavender Menace
During a time when lesbians were seen as a threat to the feminist movement, the “Lavender Menace” was coined as an insult to refer to people who were both lesbians and feminists, with lavender representing their queer identities and menace representing the perceived threat. Like with most pejorative terms, it has become a phrase of empowerment for lesbians who understand the necessity of intersectional liberation.
