"Anástasi, Anagénnisi" means “Resurrection, Rebirth” - two concepts embodied in this memento mori painting of pomegranates and wheat.
The pomegranate appears in Greek mythology as a symbol of Persephone, goddess of the spring and queen of the Underworld, and in Christian traditions as a symbol of eternal life. In some cultures, it even represents fertility and abundance.
