Anástasi, Anagénnisi - Pomegranate and Wheat

$55.00
Sold Out

"Anástasi, Anagénnisi" means “Resurrection, Rebirth” - two concepts embodied in this memento mori painting of pomegranates and wheat.

The pomegranate appears in Greek mythology as a symbol of Persephone, goddess of the spring and queen of the Underworld, and in Christian traditions as a symbol of eternal life. In some cultures, it even represents fertility and abundance. Wheat often appears in funerary motifs and mourning art as a symbol of resurrection and harvest, and is associated with the Persephone’s mother, Demeter - the Greek goddess of the harvest, and the grim reaper (who reaps lives after they have been sown with his sickle, much like grain). May this piece inspire presence, peace, and comfort in knowing nothing is eternal.
